IFEDA, the Independent Fire Engineering and Distributors Association, has elected a new Chairman for the association at their recent AGM.

Colin Payne, Director at West of England Fire Protection, steps back into the role having been an active member of the association for many years including the role of Chairman previously. Payne said: “I am delighted to be able to return to this role, and thank my predecessor for his commitment. I feel it is a great honour to have the trust and confidence from my industry colleagues with their unanimous votes of support. These are interesting times for the fire industry and I look forward to being able to support our members and enhancing the work IFEDA does. Working with both members of the association, and the fire industry as a whole, I look forward also to achieving IFEDA’s aim of continually raising standards and procedures within the fire industry.”

The AGM was followed by the IFEDA Annual Conference where the association members benefitted from talks by key industry speakers and presenters with information and legislation updates relevant to their industry.

Graham Ferris, General Manager at IFEDA, commented: “I continue to be delighted with the amount of interest shown in IFEDA’s National Conference, even more so following the successful launch of our fire alarm training courses. We presented information that all sections of the fire industry found useful and this was reflected in the great feedback received.”

Rui Soreto, from Everlux Masterlux, made a special presentation to IFEDA by way of a plaque to mark their company’s 25 year anniversary and to thank IFEDA for the on-going partnership.

This year’s speakers included dog handler Mike Dewar, from Manchester Fire & Rescue Service’s arson investigation team; and Wilf Butcher from the Association of Passive Fire Protection. IFEDA members also benefitted from presentations on remote fire alarm monitoring courtesy of Fike; and an explanation of wireless fire alarm techniques from EMS in addition to discussions regarding BS5306-3, BS6643-1 and BSEN-3.

IFEDA, as an independent trade association, promotes quality standards and procedures within the fire safety industry.
