Fire door safety in the medical sector can be challenging, especially as many occupants may require some degree of assistance in the event of a fire. In a busy building such as a hospital, it can be tempting to wedge open internal fire doors to assist with free movement, but this practice is illegal and puts the patients, staff and building at risk.

The Agrippa sound-activated fire door holder offers the ideal solution for the medical sector, allowing internal fire doors to be legally held open.

How does the Agrippa door holder work?

Agrippa sound-activated fire door holder offers the ideal solution for the medical sector

The Agrippa holder uses a magnet to hold open internal doors when required. In the event of a fire alarm sounding, Geofire’s unique "listen and learn" technology will activate and automatically release the door. Learn more about the Agrippa product range, or read FAQs here.

Here are five benefits of the Agrippa sound-activated fire door holder within the medical sector.

  1. NHS-approved and legally compliant

Installed in NHS hospital trusts across the UK, the Agrippa acoustic fire door holder is recognized by UK Fire and Rescue Services and the London Fire Brigade. It is suitable for installation to BS 7273-4 Standard Actuation (Category B), which conforms to EN1155, as well as the Regulatory Reform Order which dictates that internal fire doors must close in the event of a fire.

  1. Allows easy access

The safe retention of fire doors provides easy access through areas with high footfall, such as hospital corridors. It also provides non-restrictive access for the transport of trolleys, heavy equipment, or wheelchairs in line with the Disability Discrimination Act.

  1. Reduces contact with commonly touched surfaces

Reducing the spread of germs and bacteria has never been more essential. Holding open busy doors eliminates the need to touch door handles or contact potentially contaminated surfaces, reducing the spread of germs.

  1. Protects patients by reducing the spread of toxic smoke in a fire

In the event of a fire, all doors installed with an Agrippa product will automatically close on the sound of the alarm. This reduces the ability for fire and toxic smoke to spread from room to room, protecting older or more vulnerable people from danger. The daily timed release option also allows the ability to ensure that all fire doors are closed at the end of the day.

  1. Quick and easy to install

The Agrippa door holder is easy to install, taking around ten minutes to set up with a step-by-step installation video available on YouTube. The door holder is wire-free so can be installed on any door without the risk of damage and is powered by two ‘C’ cell batteries. The low battery signal on the LED display screen allows for easy maintenance, indicating when a battery change is required.
