Fire protection in museums - this is one of the topics covered at the "The Green Museum 2018" congress. Practitioners and experts will discuss the topic on three dates in three different cities (September 27th in Leipzig, October 24th in Stuttgart, October 30th in Düsseldorf).

What developments can be expected in terms of construction issues, costs, environmental requirements, norms and standards? What solutions and concepts are available for depots, archives and museums?

Experts from the WAGNER Group, specializing in technical fire protection, will also be taking part and presenting solutions for archives, depots and museums. This way, irretrievable losses of valuable cultural assets can be reliably prevented, as recently happened in the Brazilian National Museum in Rio de Janeiro.

Avoiding business interruptions

The legal requirements focus on protecting people and the environment

Even if all legal and insurance requirements for fire protection are met, the protection of a cultural institution may still be inadequate.

The legal requirements focus on protecting people and the environment, and the insurance requirements focus on compensating for damaged goods and avoiding business interruptions.

However, this cannot compensate for the intangible and cultural loss of irreplaceable goods. Conventional fire protection solutions are not sufficient here. The uniqueness and value of cultural and historical collections calls for new, particularly sustainable systems.

Aspirating smoke detectors

Many museums and archives already rely on active fire prevention by reducing oxygen in combination with aspirating smoke detectors for early fire detection or on gentle, residue-free fire fighting using nitrogen.

An early fire detection system such as TITANUS ® from WAGNER detects fires at a very early stage and provides time to determine the exact cause and take appropriate countermeasures. Reducing the oxygen level using OxyReduct ® prevents a fire from spreading and, in the best case scenario, leads to it being extinguished - the rooms remain accessible to authorized personnel.

Risk management system

A FirExting ® gas extinguishing system, on the other hand, enables the highly effective, yet gentle introduction of extinguishing gas in the event of a fire. Various protection components can be bundled and centrally controlled digitally using the Visu LAN ® risk management system.

Institutions around the world such as the Museum of Natural History in Berlin, the Lenbachhaus in Munich, Arvato Bertelsmann, Aston Martin in St. Gallen, the Library of Birmingham, the British Library in London, the University of Oslo, the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, the University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates and many others rely on fire protection solutions from WAGNER that are tailored to the specific application. These certified systems start before a fire occurs.
