F-Shield is a process that encapsulates the chassis frame, cross members, fasteners and fixed accessories mounted on the chassis

Ferrara Fire Apparatus, Inc., America’s premier custom fire apparatus manufacturer, unveils their F-Shield chassis frame corrosion protection for the Ultra, Inferno and Igniter models of custom fire chassis. Ferrara is making the introduction at FDIC in Indianapolis, the largest fire service trade show in North America.

F-Shield is a unique process that encapsulates the chassis frame, cross members, fasteners and fixed accessories mounted on the chassis. The fuel tank, air reservoirs and their brackets are treated separately before assembly. These additional steps ensure these components are completely sealed with the F-Shield process prior to installation, resulting in no unprotected areas on the chassis. Every part of the chassis frame is thoroughly prepped and then cleaned prior to beginning the F-Shield application. Components with moving parts, such as spring suspension, steering, shock absorbers, etc., continue to be painted with Ferrara’s DuPont Imron certified paint finish.

“Our customers in the north have asked us for something to protect their chassis from the wintertime elements, particularly deicing agents,” noted President/CEO Chris Ferrara. “They also asked for something that wouldn’t make it difficult to work on the chassis, as is the case with sticky types of undercoating. So we devised the F-Shield, which is dry to the touch and provides unsurpassed corrosion protection.”

Ferrara Fire Apparatus manufactures a full line of fire, emergency and rescue vehicles. The company offers the Ultra, Inferno, Igniter, Ember and Intruder 2 custom fire chassis. These, along with a wide selection of commercial chassis, are then converted into pumpers, tankers, rear and mid-mount aerial ladders and platforms, rescues and incident command vehicles and high-flow industrial apparatus. A leading innovator in the industry, Ferrara takes pride in offering such firefighter safety items as the MVP, On-Site Tilt Table Testing, Cab and Body NFPA Compliant Crash Testing, Independent Front Suspension, Complete Airbag Protection, and SmartWheel steering systems
