In the south Texas city of Edinburg, the community’s firefighters recently received delivery of two fully customized pumper apparatus that were built by Toyne Inc., a foremost fire apparatus manufacturer based in Breda, Iowa. The department’s new engines will help bolster its firefighting efforts in and around the city as the community continues to expand.

Aiding Fire Suppression

Both the apparatuses are mounted on a Spartan Metro Star LFD chassis with a 10-inch raised roof. Power is supplied by the pumpers’ Cummins ISL9 engine, which is capable of producing 450 horsepower, and an Allison 3000 EVS transmission. Built with welded stainless steel bodies, the two pumpers were made with exact matching specifications. The apparatus features identical fire suppression systems and can move water at 1,500 gallons per minute

Edinburg’s Toyne Tailored Apparatus also feature identical fire suppression systems. Water is stored in a 750-gallon UPF Tank that has an ICI SL Plus tank gauge. Equipped with a Waterous CSU 1500 pump and a Fire Research Pump Boss pressure governor, the apparatus can move water at 1,500 gallons per minute. Other hardware includes a Task Force Tips XFT-NJ Crossfire Monitor, FoamPro 3012 Class A/B foam system, and Fire Research tripod lights.

Edinburg Fire Department

Located in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, the Edinburg Fire Department serves an area of nearly 200 square miles, consisting of the City of Edinburg and rural areas of Hidalgo County.

To respond to such a large territory and a population of over 75,000 in the city alone, the department has 97 firefighters, operates out of four fire stations, and manages over 30 apparatus and support equipment. Recently, the Edinburg Fire Department broke ground on a fifth fire station. Each year, these firefighters respond to over 2,500 calls.

Effective Emergency Response

We are proud to work with the Edinburg Fire Department to build two apparatus that meet the needs of their growing department and community,” said Michael Schwabe, President and CEO of Toyne, Inc.

The new Toyne Pumpers are more than ready to take the call and bring a higher level of emergency response to their fire district.” The pumpers were sold by Jim Farrell of Municipal Fire Apparatus Specialists, a Toyne dealer based out of McAllen, Texas.
