| Over the next six months the RIB wil be used to train the South West based swift water teams |
With news about heavy rain and flooding in the West Country becoming increasingly prevalent, Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service has taken delivery of a brand new 585 Ribcraft which will be used to train its crews to RYA Level 2 Standard.
The 585 is fitted with a Suzuki DF90 outboard engine chosen for its power to weight ratio as well as fuel efficiency.
Nick Jones, Principal of the RYA Training Section and Group Manager within Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said, “We selected Ribcraft through our procurement process and the company came out on top for construction, costing and maintenance. The service from Ribcraft has been excellent and they have been particularly helpful in providing ideas on how to improve on the spec we originally gave them.”
Over the next six months, the RIB will be used to train the South West based swift water teams to RYA Level 2 Standard. These teams operate as part of the national flood response force.
The new Ribcraft is in addition to the Service’s 12m Cat which operates out of Plymouth.
