| Chubb Fire & Security have installed new digital fire alarms in two buildings of the school |
Chubb Fire & Security is upgrading existing fire alarm technology from analogue to digital to better protect pupils at Latymer Upper School, an independent secondary school in London.
Chubb is a business of UTC Fire and Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
The new ‘addressable’ system will have considerable advantages, according to Tom Fisher, Facilities and Projects Manager at Latymer: “We have an analogue system currently,” he says, “which indicates when a device has been triggered in a particular zone. However, the alert may have been prompted by any one of a number of devices in that particular zone.
“With the new addressable system,” he continues, “we can put an ‘address’ to each alarm, identifying the precise device and location. It means we can more immediately determine whether an alarm is genuine, and identify any devices which may be at fault or in need of repair.”
As well as installing new technology, Chubb has also secured a service contract to ensure that the system is professionally maintained.
Fisher says that Chubb won both contracts having already completed a further project on site: “Chubb installed fire alarms in two new buildings, and we were very satisfied with the work carried out which was completed with the minimum disruption,” he says. “We trust them and find their work to be of a consistently high standard.”
Latymer Upper School is an independent, co-educational day school for children aged seven to eighteen years old. This urban school was founded by Edward Latymer in 1624, and has a long and proud history of serving the families of the immediate area and beyond.
