Chubb will deliver its solutions through its offshore marine division and to cover seven TPEUK sites

Chubb Fire & Security UK has won a five-year contract to provide specialist firefighting knowledge, strategic support and equipment to the international energy business Total E&P UK (TEPUK). Chubb, a leading provider of electronic security and fire safety solutions for business and industry, is part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp.

The contract, delivered through Chubb’s Offshore Marine division, covers seven TEPUK sites: Alwyn, Dunbar, Elgin/Franklin, St. Fergus, the future Shetland Gas plant, as well as the company’s Altens offices and its onshore warehouse.

John Newton, General Manager, Chubb’s Offshore Marine division, says that Chubb has built a strong relationship with TEPUK over the past few years:

“TEPUK operates in some challenging work environments and wanted to partner with a company that could be trusted to keep their employees safe,” he says. “Renewing this contract for five years is a testament to TEPUK’s complete confidence in Chubb and our expertise.”

Chubb has a dedicated team on the account, which manages the maintenance and re-certification of essential life-saving equipment, including life rafts, escape nets, life jackets, immersion suits, breathing apparatus, gas detection equipment, fire extinguishers and suppression equipment.

Alan Smith, Lead Mechanical Engineer, UK Operated Assets, TEPUK, explains that this equipment is absolutely critical for TEPUK employee safety:

“It is essential that this equipment remains available, accessible and in reliable working order at all times, primarily because it is our first defence should any personnel need to escape to a safe area for rescue or evacuation, but also for protecting the assets of the business,” he says. “To this end, Chubb has worked closely with the Mechanical Department of TEPUK to develop a comprehensive maintenance strategy, ensuring that the equipment is maintained to the highest standards and in accordance with company policy.”

Chubb personnel are located on each of the operated assets as part of the core crew personnel: ”It is vital that we have engineers on-hand who are experts of our assets and the equipment to ensure they are maintained correctly and that the maintenance history is auditable,” says Alan.

“Although we tendered this contract in accordance with TEPUK contract rules, Chubb was successful again in winning the contract because we have a strong working relationship with the team and it has been assisting us in the progression of maintenance strategy improvement work,” he says. “We did not want to risk losing the knowledge and experience that Chubb has already demonstrated that perfectly suits our needs.”
