It is Child Passenger Safety Week, and the Gilbert Fire & Rescue Department wants to help you keep your most precious cargo safe on the road.
According to Safe Kids Worldwide, road injuries are the cause of preventable deaths and injuries to children in the United States.
Here are three tips to remember:
- Keep your child in a rear-facing seat for as long as possible. Rear-facing car seats are designed to protect your child’s head, neck, and spine in a crash.
- A height of 4’ 9” inches is the magic number for when a child can stop using a booster seat and graduate to just a lap and shoulder belt.
- Children 12 years old and younger should always sit in the back seat of a vehicle and be properly restrained. Airbag deployment in a crash can cause serious injury to a young child’s internal organs and
On the first Thursday of every month, Gilbert Fire & Rescue hosts free car seat clinics for Gilbert residents. Advanced registration is required as space is limited.
