Bullard has launched online fire helmet training, to aid firefighter compliance with the NFPA standard for helmet care

Training helps fire departments comply with NFPA standard for fire helmet care

Bullard has expanded its SmartLine resources to include a new online training service to help fire departments comply with the NFPA 1851, 2008 Standard for fire helmet care and maintenance.

The NFPA 1851, 2008 Standard on Selection, Care and Maintenance of Protective Ensembles requires regular basic cleaning and inspection of fire helmets, plus advanced cleaning and inspection no less than once a year. The Bullard online training, NFPA 1851, 2008 Basic Helmet Cleaning and Inspection, introduces participants to the NFPA requirements and guidelines for basic cleaning and inspection of Bullard fire helmets.

This interactive training is user-friendly and comprehensive. In less than 30 minutes, participants are guided step-by-step through four easy-to-follow lessons that demonstrate and explain the basic inspection and cleaning process of a fire helmet.

The four lessons include:

  • NFPA 1851, 2008 Standard Overview
  • Cleaning
  • Inspection
  • Retirement

Following the lessons, an assessment test with 20 questions is provided. Participants who score 90 percent or better on the test are awarded a certificate of completion. This new online training can be accessed on the Bullard website.
