Automatic fire sprinklers systems are a reliable and effective means of saving lives, protecting firefighters, reducing fire damage and mitigating fire risk, provided the systems are properly designed, installed and maintained. Those responsible for buildings are reminded that even within this challenging situation of COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic. Critical Fire Suppression Systems/Life Safety Protection Systems must be tested and maintained.

Postponing these checks, maintenance and servicing may result in equipment failure should defects not be noticed. This may cause a system failure under fire conditions and impact on the user’s insurance cover. The user also has a legal requirement under Health & Safety and Fire Safety Legislation to ensure these systems are tested, maintained and serviced to ensure the system is effective and in good repair.

BAFSA Members are continuing to carry out Service and Maintenance work where possible within the Government Guidelines and within the restrictions set up by those responsible for buildings.
