Fire Safety Matters Magazine has launched a new podcast for the fire safety industry. Fire Safety Matters (FSM) launched their inaugural podcast episode featuring the new BAFE campaign.

The Don’t Just Specify, Verify! campaign focuses on the important verification stage of Third Party Certification when sourcing a competent provider to help meet fire safety obligations.

Verification is extremely important, as BAFE Registration or any Third Party Certification does not determine evidence of competency for all fire safety services. End users (e.g. premises management) must be vigilant to ensure they exercise due diligence.

Hosts Brian Sims, Editor – FSM, and Mark Sennett, Western Business Media Chief Executive, discussed this, “This is a big campaign for (BAFE) if you talk to Stephen Adams – their Chief Executive and the press release they put out – he’s very adamant, BAFE is very adamant, you wouldn’t use an unregistered gas engineer so why would your fire safety requirements to be treated any differently."

"One thing this country doesn’t have is a (mandatory) fire safety register, compared to the Gas Safe Register (which replaced CORGI). I know from sitting on the Fire Sector Federation meetings that competency and Third Party Certification is a really hot topic at the moment. This really caught my eye and it’s something that post Grenfell, post the Dame Judith Hackitt report, is really come into the forefront. (This campaign/topic is) definitely one we need to keep our eye on.” adds Mark Sennett.

Brian Sims added that the subject of mandatory versus voluntary Third Party Certification was a 'key issue' and a subject to discuss in a future podcast.
