This is a £5.2m sports complex which has transformed facilities and provided opportunities for the whole community in Lockleaze. The first phase of development has seen the creation of a clubhouse, social space, two all-weather pitches, multi-use games area, provision for dog-walking, trim trail and cycle routes across currently underutilized fields near Bonnington Walk.
The transformation has been dubbed a ‘great success story for the community’ by mayor Marvin Rees, who sees it as a way of bringing people of all ages together and encouraging activity at a time when Bristol holds the title of European City of Sport.
Redesigning community spaces
Mayor Marvin Rees said: “Redesigning community spaces to get more value out of them will be crucial for Bristol in the future so I am pleased to see this approach is already in action in Lockleaze. I look forward to seeing these clubs flourish and continuing to build on the great success stories communities are creating in sport across the city.”
A.P.E. have been proud to be involved in this project from specification and design with the client, right through to the delivery of the project within budget. They installed state-of-the-art life safety systems throughout the facility.
