Aico will fit optical smoke alarms in hallways and landing and Ei261 CO alarms in rooms with gas appliances |
Welsh social housing organisation Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd is upgrading to Aico mains powered Smoke, Heat and Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarms throughout 4000 properties during a five year re-wiring programme.
This major upgrade is part of the organisation’s £136 million spend on homes previously belonging to Gwynedd Council to meet the Welsh Housing Quality Standard.
Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd had previously used a range of Aico alarms in selected properties, but this new project will see the social landlord install Aico’s Ei160 Series mains powered smoke alarms and Ei2610 CO alarms as standard throughout its housing stock.
Ei166RC Optical Smoke Alarms will be fitted in hallways and landings, Ei164RC Heat Alarm in kitchens and Ei261 CO Alarms in every room with a gas appliance. The CO Alarm comes with a cost-saving replaceable CO sensor to extend the life of the alarm unit. The alarms are being interlinked in line with BS 5839: Pt.6: 2004 (the standard for domestic smoke alarm installation) and Building Regulations.
All selected alarms feature 10 year plus Lithium cell back-up and Remote System Control option. Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd are enhancing the installations with an Aico wall-mounted Alarm Locator Switch which allows residents to quickly identify the exact alarm which has activated the system and take appropriate action depending on whether a fire or CO leak is the cause.
Paul Painter, Supply Chain Manager for Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd, comments on his organisation’s decision to use Aico Alarms: “At Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd the safety of our tenants is a priority. We chose Aico alarms because of their quality and reliability and their ease of use for our tenants. The system also gives our tenants peace of mind that should a fire or gas leak occur in their home that they will be notified immediately.”
Paul is also impressed with the support he has received from Aico: “We are also pleased with Aico’s aftercare service and their commitment to this project. We have regular meetings with the company to discuss innovation and developments that may suit our properties. Aico also held a training event for our contractors to cover all aspects of the products and how to fit them correctly.”
