Aico’s Ei160RC Series incorporates advanced suppression and calibration technology to reduce false alarms

Dacorum Borough Council in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire is fitting Aico mains-powered Ei160RC Series smoke and heat alarms across its 10,500 strong property portfolio as part of its rewiring programme.

The Council has been fitting Aico smoke alarms for eight years, originally within its sheltered housing schemes, but has found the alarms to be so cost-effective that it is now fitting them as standard to 300/400 properties per year when rewiring.

Designed to offer the highest quality protection for BS. 5839 Part 6 Grade D applications, the Ei160RC Series incorporates advanced suppression and calibration technology to reduce false alarms and high performance 10 year+ rechargeable Lithium cells to provide over six month's back-up power in the event of a mains failure. The alarms are extremely reliable, reducing call outs and maximising cost-effectiveness.

Two alarms per property, one per level, are being installed at Dacorum Borough Council. They are being hard wired together so that if one alarm is triggered the other alarm also sounds, ensuring it is heard throughout the property.

Mark Kibble, Maintenance Team Leader at Dacorum Borough Council, has long been impressed with the service provided by Aico: "Aico keep us up to date with product developments and best practice - this information is one of the reasons we have upgraded to the Ei160RC alarms. The training, provided by Aico as an added value service, has also been very beneficial; it's not just about fitting alarms, but understanding the system at large and why you fit alarms where you do.

"I also like the fact that Aico respond to requests for product and product features, and invest in R&D accordingly. Many of the suggestions we have made they have acted upon, including literature. They listen and take note."

A wholly owned subsidiary of Ei Electronics, Aico is a market leader in residential fire protection in the UK. All alarms are designed and built in Europe specifically to meet the UK standards and regulations.
