ADI-GARDINER (UK) has awarded the BSI SP203 Third Party certification & Kitemark® licences/certificates to two North West fire security companies, Oldham GB Fire and Security and MP Electronic Fire & Security, who successfully gained the accreditation through ADI-GARDINER's training initiatives and its joint "Proof of Competence" initiative with BSI.
Eric Garside, Managing Director of Oldham GB Fire and Security, and Mike Ainscough and Peter Farnell, joint Managing Directors of Liverpool-based MP Electronic Fire & Security, received their BSI Kitemark® certificates on Tuesday 21st October, after successfully completing ADI-GARDINER's fire training courses and making applications through the joint "Proof of Competence" initiative for this accreditation. The awards were presented by Nigel Hutchinson, Chief Fire Officer of North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Services, at Firex in North Harrogate, from October 21st - 22nd.
ADI-GARDINER and the BSI developed the joint initiative via the SP203 scheme: a Government backed, United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) approved program, whereby companies that sign up are audited annually by a third party. The BSI Kitemark® is widely recognised as a sign of quality and helps companies involved in the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of fire security systems to prove competence. The unique aspect of the Kitemark scheme is its modular structure which means that companies can seek certification for just the aspects for which they are qualified or all elements.
"The Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order (RRO) and the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) require companies and individuals working in the fire industry to prove their competence. At ADI-GARDINER, we are committed to providing comprehensive training in fire security to help companies meet industry and legislative standards and promote HSE (Health and Safety Executive) best practice," comments Peter Holmes, Fire Product Manager at ADI-GARDINER. "We believe that over the next three years SP203 will become an industry standard, with contracts from local councils, specifiers and retailers requesting third party approved companies using third party approved equipment to carry out contracts."
Fire safety courses available from ADI-GARDINER include the award-winning Fire Industry Association (FIA) accreditation training covering fire principles & standards, and Industry Committee for Emergency Lighting (ICEL) certification training providing companies with an understanding of applicable legislation and a working knowledge of the design process to complete an installation to current standards.
