The arrival of eight warships to Doha Commercial Port on 29th March has signaled the fifth edition of the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition & Conference (DIMDEX 2016) is underway.
Organised visit to warships
A procession of ships from the navies of France, India, Italy, Morocco, Pakistan, UK and US arrived in full view of Doha residents, comprising of various classes including a destroyer, frigates, fast-attack craft and an amphibious transport dock to participate at DIMDEX; the leading specialised maritime naval defence and security exhibition in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Organised visits to the warships are a popular component of DIMDEX, with industry professionals and VIP delegations provided the rare opportunity to come on board to view these modern and technologically advanced vessels, as well as network with defence decision makers in atmospheric surroundings.
Away from Doha Commercial Port, a pre-show press conference was held at the Qatar National Convention Centre, where the exhibition component of DIMDEX 2016 will be staged over the next three days.
Connecting with defence companies
A panel from Organising Committee briefed international, local and trade media on the different components of the show, including the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC) taking place on Wednesday, and welcomed their support.
Brig. Dr. (Eng) Thani A. Al-Kuwari, Chairman of DIMDEX said:
“The Qatar Armed Forces as host and organiser of DIMDEX 2016 welcomes the return of warships, crews and naval officials to Doha. DIMDEX is primarily a business event supporting Qatar’s vision of a world-class commercial hub, and will connect our military guests to a large number of prestigious international defence companies presenting the latest advanced security and defence technologies.”
DIMDEX’s official opening ceremony takes place 29th March at the Qatar National Convention Centre under the patronage of His Highness, The Emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani.
